Air Fryer Egg in a Hole

The air fryer actually works better than a skillet here - you don't have to flip anything and the bread gets crispy all around.

Ingredients

What You Need

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 slices whole grain bread
  • Sea salt and black pepper
  • Canola oil spray

Dialing in Your Egg

  • ~7 minutes at 340F: runny yolk whites still a bit loose
  • ~8 minutes at 340F: runny yolk my go-to, whites fully set
  • ~9 minutes at 330F: jammy yolk set whites
  • ~10 minutes at 330F: fully cooked through

Instructions

  • Spray air fryer basket with canola oil.
  • Place bread slice in basket and use a glass or cookie cutter to press a well into the center.
  • Press the bottom of the well flat with your fingers.
  • Crack an egg into the well and season with salt and pepper.
  • Air fry at 340F for 8 minutes for a runny yolk with set whites.
  • Slide a spatula under the entire piece to remove from basket.
  • Repeat with second slice or cook both together if space allows.

Notes

For runny yolk with loose whites cook 7 minutes; for jammy yolk cook 9 minutes at 330F; for fully cooked cook 10 minutes at 330F. Add cheese at 7-minute mark if desired.
