Ingredients (~9 servings)
- 3 Tbsp smoked paprika
- 2 Tbsp onion powder
- 1 Tbsp chili powder
- 1 Tbsp garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1 1/2 tsp ground mustard
- 1 1/2 tsp brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 1/2 tsp black pepper
Combine All Spices in an Airtight Container
Add everything to a small glass jar or airtight container and mix well.
The seasoning will clump slightly at first but breaks up easily when you shake or stir it.
Store at room temperature for up to 6 months – the flavors actually get better after a few days as they meld together.
Use about 1-2 tsp per chicken breast or fish fillet, or however much you like depending on how bold you want the flavor.

Homemade Blackened Seasoning
This is a bold, smoky spice blend that works on everything from fish to chicken to vegetables. I make a big batch and keep it in a jar since it stores well and saves time during weeknight cooking.
