Homemade Blackened Seasoning

By Sam Pierce

Ingredients (~9 servings)

  • 3 Tbsp smoked paprika
  • 2 Tbsp onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground mustard
  • 1 1/2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp black pepper

Mix all your spices together in a sealed container

Use a small glass jar or airtight container to hold all the ingredients and combine until well mixed.

At first, the spice mixture may be clumpy but it breaks apart with shaking or stirring your container.

Store your spice mixture at room temperature for up to 6 months.

The flavor of your spices will improve as they blend together over the course of a few days.

You can season each chicken breast or fish fillet with 1-2 teaspoons of spice, or however much you prefer based on how strong a flavor you would like.

Homemade Blackened Seasoning

This is a bold, smoky spice blend that works on everything from fish to chicken to vegetables. I make a big batch and keep it in a jar since it stores well and saves time during weeknight cooking.
