Ingredients (~6 servings)

  • 1 1/2 Tbsp dehydrated minced onions
  • 1 1/2 heads iceberg lettuce, chopped or shredded
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup mayo
  • 3 Tbsp sweet pickle relish
  • 2 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 1/2 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 1/2 tsp white vinegar
  • 3/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp seasoning salt

Rehydrate the Onions

Add the dehydrated onions to a small bowl with 1/3 cup water and let sit for 30 minutes.

The onions will plump up and lose that sharp dried taste — this is what gives you that authentic Big Mac onion flavor.

Make the Big Mac Sauce

In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, ketchup, yellow mustard, white vinegar, paprika, and onion powder.

Season with salt and pepper to taste. This can sit while you cook the beef — the flavors actually get better as they meld.

Cook the Ground Beef

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef along with the garlic powder, onion powder, and seasoning salt.

Cook for approximately 8 to 10 minutes, breaking up the meat as it browns. The beef should be fully cooked through with no pink remaining. Drain off any excess fat if needed.

Drain the water from the rehydrated onions and stir them into the cooked beef. Let the mixture cool for a few minutes so it doesn’t wilt the lettuce.

Assemble the Salads

Divide the chopped lettuce between 6 bowls and top each with the warm beef mixture and shredded cheddar.

I like to serve the sauce on the side so everyone can add as much as they want — some people go heavy on it.

Big Mac Salad

This salad has all the flavors of a traditional Big Mac, but is much lighter than a sandwich. It is a great choice for days when you want something that feels filling, without all of the heaviness of a full sandwich. Using dehydrated onions and a homemade Big Mac sauce really elevates this dish.
