Homemade Cajun Seasoning

By Sam Pierce

Ingredients (~1 1/2 cups seasoning)

  • 3 Tbsp smoked paprika
  • 2 Tbsp seasoning salt
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp onion powder
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp oregano
  • 1 Tbsp cayenne powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 1/2 tsp basil
  • 1 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp black pepper

Mix All Spices Together

Add all the spices to a medium bowl and whisk together until well combined.

The mixture should look uniform with no clumps of any single spice visible.

If you’re sensitive to heat, start with 2 tsp of cayenne and add more to taste.

Store in an Airtight Container

Transfer the seasoning blend to a clean, dry spice jar or airtight container.

Store at room temperature in a dark place like your spice cabinet.

The blend will stay fresh and potent for up to 6 months; after that the flavors start to fade but it’s still usable for another few months.

Homemade Cajun Seasoning

This makes enough seasoning to last a few months and costs way less than buying those tiny store bottles. I keep mine in an old spice jar and use it on everything from grilled chicken to roasted vegetables.
