Homemade Cajun Seasoning

By Sam Pierce

Ingredients (~1 1/2 cups seasoning)

  • 3 Tbsp smoked paprika
  • 2 Tbsp seasoning salt
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp onion powder
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp oregano
  • 1 Tbsp cayenne powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 1/2 tsp basil
  • 1 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp black pepper

Combine Seasonings in a Bowl

Using a whisk, combine all spices in a medium-sized bowl until properly blended together.

Once combined, you should see a uniform consistency without any clumping of any specific spice.

If you are sensitive to heat from cayenne, add only 2 tsp and adjust from there according to your liking.

Method to Store

Using a clean and dry spice jar or airtight container, transfer the spice mixture into it.

Keep the mix stored in a dry, dark location at room temperature, such as a kitchen cabinet.

The seasoning mixture will remain fresh and effective for up to six months after mixing; however, it will continue to be usable for a few additional months after that, though the flavors will no longer be at their peak strength.

Homemade Cajun Seasoning

This makes enough seasoning to last a few months and costs way less than buying those tiny store bottles. I keep mine in an old spice jar and use it on everything from grilled chicken to roasted vegetables.
